The Municipal Chief Executive for Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly (EKMA), Hon. Abdul Majeed Dokurgu, together with a team of engineers, has inspected the Effiakuma Police Park to assess the facility for redevelopment.
The inspection exercise, which took place on Sunday, July 27th, 2025, forms part of the MCE's agenda to improve sporting infrastructure within the municipality.
According to the engineers who accompanied the MCE, expansion of the playing pitch will not be possible due to limited space, as the surrounding lands are privately owned and already developed by natives of Effiakuma.
After a thorough assessment of the park, the MCE and the engineering team concluded on a focused renovation plan aimed at bringing the facility to standard.
The redevelopment works will include the fixing of floodlights, construction of an inner perimeter, provision of modern substitution benches including a referees' bench, and the construction of an electrical control room.
Speaking during the inspection, Hon. Dokurgu said his ultimate aim is to make it possible for football matches to be played at night at the park and to bring back Division Two League matches to Effiakuma.
He disclosed that all plans, including the financial cost for the project, have already been put in place for work to commence in earnest.
The Effiakuma Police Park is one of the most active football venues in the municipality. It currently serves as the home for several community and inter-area football tournaments, including the ongoing Dokurgu Tournament, which has drawn large crowds.
The planned upgrade is expected to boost local sports development, provide a platform for young talents, and revive football enthusiasm in Effiakuma and its environs.
