Western Regional Minister, Joseph Nelson, has urged businesses operating in the region to move beyond one-off donations and embrace strategic Corporate Social Investment (CSI) initiatives that provide sustainable opportunities for individuals and communities.
Speaking to journalists and corporate leaders at the Western Regional Media and Corporate Social Investment (CSI) Awards in Takoradi, organized by the Western Regional Chapter of the Ghana Journalists Association, Honorable Nelson emphasised the need for businesses to make deliberate investments that contribute meaningfully to long-term development.
He noted that areas such as education, healthcare, skills training, entrepreneurship, environmental protection and sanitation present significant opportunities for businesses to make a lasting difference in communities.
The Minister encouraged companies in the Western Region to consider themselves not merely as key players in the region’s economic growth but also as active partners in its broader social and developmental progress.
“Corporate social investment should go beyond occasional donations.
The greatest impact comes when businesses invest strategically in people and systems that create lasting opportunities” Mr. Nelson said.
He further pointed out that the government could not single-handedly address all the development challenges facing the region, stressing the importance of stronger partnerships between the public and private sectors.
Mr. Nelson also called for collaboration among traditional authorities, civil society organisations, development partners and the media to support initiatives aimed at achieving sustainable development throughout the Western Region.
