| DJ MAGNUS |
DJ Magnus otherwise known as Sizezero, a celebrated DJ and presenter from Sekondi-Takoradi, took to social media to share a candid account of his evolving career in the local radio industry.
His reflections provide a rare glimpse into the challenges and transitions faced by media personalities within Ghana’s dynamic broadcasting landscape.
DJ Magnus began by recounting how the return of DJ Gomez to Goodnews FM, after roughly a year at Spice FM, affected his own role. With his opportunities at both Goodnews FM and Help FM dwindling, he found himself needing a new path.
Recognizing a chance when Focus 1 Media acquired Beach FM in 2014, he reached out to key figures in the group—first his boss Razak Cofie, then MajikGeorge—to explore possible openings.
After some initial exchanges, Razak directed him to Citi Buzzer Agyekum Gyimah, manager of Beach FM at the time.
Though multiple calls went unanswered initially, the pivotal moment came on Monday, October 6, 2014, when Agyekum finally reached out to invite Magnus to join the station’s test transmissions.
Without hesitation or even asking about pay or station location, Magnus accepted and shifted focus immediately.
He tactfully excused himself from his prior engagements at Goodnews FM, channeling his energy into preparing for a new broadcast slot from 2pm to 6pm specializing in Afrobeat and Afropop music.

Upon arriving at Beach FM, DJ Magnus met Tender Bowy, who warned him that three other DJs had tried and abandoned the slot after only one day.
Despite the nerves, Magnus powered through and opened with Fuse ODG’s “Million Pound Girl,” marking a fresh chapter in his career.
He poignantly notes that this transition came after three years at Goodnews FM and Help FM, during which he had been unpaid, underscoring the difficult conditions under which some media practitioners operate.
This narrative encapsulates not just a personal story of resilience and adaptability but also sheds light on the complexities endemic to Ghana’s radio broadcasting environment.
DJ Magnus’s journey reflects broader themes of perseverance in the face of uncertainty, the necessity of seizing opportunities swiftly, and the evolving nature of media careers in regional markets.
