Alhaji Mohammed, popularly known as Alhaji Takoradi, has officially filed his nomination to contest the position of Western Regional Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The long-time grassroots organizer and party activist filed his forms at the NDC Western Regional Secretariat in Takoradi, days after the party opened nominations for its 2026 Regional Executive Elections on October 6, 2026.
The filing marks a major step forward from his initial declaration in June, moving his bid from intent to a formal contest for one of the key leadership positions in the Western Region.
Speaking shortly after filing, Alhaji Takoradi said his bid is anchored on three pillars - unity, grassroots mobilization and election readiness - with a renewed focus on strengthening constituency structures and deepening youth and zongo engagement to ensure the Western Region delivers strongly for the NDC in the 2028 general elections.
"The Western Region is critical to the NDC's future. I am offering myself to serve so that together we can rebuild, retool, and reclaim the confidence of our people. This is about teamwork and hard work from the polling station up," he told MrImpactful News.
Alhaji Takoradi has been active in NDC politics in the Western Region for several years, serving in various branch and constituency capacities. Supporters describe him as a bridge-builder with strong ties across the region's diverse communities, known for his philanthropic work and accessibility to party members at the grassroots.
His campaign team says his key priorities if elected will be:
1. Party Unity: Foster cohesion among all factions and bridge generational gaps within the regional executive structure.
2. Grassroots Mobilization: Reinvigorate branch and ward executives through training, logistics support and regular engagement.
3. Youth & Women Inclusion: Create deliberate pathways for young people and women to take leadership roles.
4. Election Readiness: Build robust campaign and monitoring systems to protect the NDC's vote in every constituency.
The NDC is expected to hold its regional conferences across the country in the coming months to elect new regional executives. Dates and vetting guidelines will be announced by the party's National Elections Directorate.
With his filing, Alhaji Takoradi officially joins what is expected to be a keenly contested race for the Western Regional Vice Chairmanship.
