Lawyer FF Faidoo, the Metropolitan Chief Executive Officer of the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly on Tuesday, June 23rd conducted an on-site inspection of the Kweikuma BNI Road and a nearby damaged bridge following the heavy rains over the past weekend.
Accompanied by the Coordinating Director, Urban Roads Engineers, DRIP Coordinators, and the local Assemblyman, the evaluation aimed to identify effective interventions to restore accessibility and ensure motorability of the affected infrastructure.
The inspection uncovered significant challenges: several unauthorized structures have been erected along the natural waterway adjacent to BNI Road, impeding proper drainage and causing water to pool on certain road sections.
Such blockages exacerbate road deterioration and pose potential hazards to motorists.
In response, the Assembly has decided on immediate remedial actions.
These include pumping out the stagnant water, constructing temporary gutters to divert rainwater from the roadway, and reshaping the road surface to improve drainage and usability.
These measures are intended as short-term solutions to quickly alleviate the current impediments to traffic flow.
Regarding the damaged bridge near Kweikuma Red House, plans are underway to engage Justmoh Company—the contractor responsible for the Kweikuma Inner Roads project—to implement temporary repairs.
This will facilitate continued access while preparations for the comprehensive main road works are concurrently mobilized to the site.
The Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly remains resolute in its commitment to enhancing road infrastructure within the metropolis, swiftly addressing residents’ concerns, and ensuring safe, reliable transport routes.
With heavy rains becoming a recurrent challenge, such proactive strategies illustrate the Assembly’s dedication to resilient urban governance and infrastructural sustainability.
